Photographer's Note

In January/February 2004 I was lucky enough to spend two weeks with Mike Ball Dive Expeditions, working as a volunteer dive guide on their Spoilsport and Supersport vessels on trips from Cairns to Cod Hole and back, and from Townsville to the wreck of the Yongala. My job was to fill tanks, dry towels, and help out with the hospitality and cleaning tasks - with the reward being 2-3 free dives a day plus the best food on the Barrier Reef!! Anyone travelling to Australia with a working visa and a DM card is well advised to email Mike Ball and get themselves on board!!

This photo was taken during the end of trip barbeque on board Supersport, moored off Lizard Island. The seagulls were swooping in to claim scraps of fish from the floor, and one of the guests decided to see if they'd eat from her hand. They did, and it made for a dramatic photo.
