Photographer's Note
Pushing the limits of the TOS.. this tree is located in the Murchison River gorge, "The Loop". During the hot dry season in Kalbarri NP, it easily reaches 45-50 degrees on the flat land. Down in this gorge, where wind is an unknown "element", it easy reaches 60 and more degrees between the hot dark red stone walls. Where this tree gets it's water from, I'll never know.

Very impressive photo there.
The tree interests me aswell with it's will to survive. Alot of australian plants have very deep roots. Alot of the time they can burrow 50 meters or so to get to under ground water supplies.
This amkes it a bit more complicated because it's in a very rocky area. From what I know about these kind of habitats is deep cracks in the rock can store water quiet well. And because the roots in most native plants are very strong they can mould their way through the hardest of stone. Once they get into this stone they become very water wise. What ever little water makes it in there from rain stays in there and is used 100%.
Quite resiliant hey:P
I like this photo alot then you for sharing it.
