Photographer's Note
After quite many pictures from Kashubia and Plonsk, back to New Zealand.
The sculptures of moa birds in Franz Josef on the West Coast of New Zealand.
The sculptures feature two life-size giant fiberglass birds, with no wings, a long neck and orange eyes.
The moa were nine species of flightless birds endemic to New Zealand. The two largest species, Dinornis robustus and Dinornis novaezelandiae, reached about 3.6 m (12 ft) in height with neck outstretched, and weighed about 230 kg (510 lb). They were the dominant herbivores in New Zealand's forest, shrubland and subalpine ecosystems for thousands of years, and until the arrival of the Maori were hunted only by the Haast's eagle. Moa extinction occurred in CE 1440 ± 20 years, primarily due to overhunting by Maori.

Hi Malgo,
Interesting statues of these birds, well taken with a nice contrast between black and green, not to difficult to take these animals ... no problem, they don't move ! Perfect for photographer ;-)

Hello,
Nice view of the interesting birds. I didn't knew about Maori population being guilty for their extinction. As humans, we are still destroying the planet...

Hello Malgo,
Interesting birds and incredibly large. The meat from just one moa could have fed an entire village. No wonder it was overhunted. They really look like late surviving relatives of dinosaurs. You should perhaps be grateful you didn't suddenly meet one in a national park.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Malgo,
They look like a close relative of the cassowary which can still be found around Mission Beach in far North Queensland in Australia. The mothers are VERY protective of their chicks during breeding season & those claws can be used as lethal weapons to maim or even kill. I was surprised to read that ostriches have also caused fatalities.

Good color and sharpness and a pity that these birds are extinct. Tfs!

Hello Malgo,
It is always sad to hear of the destruction of a whole species by us (humans). They must have been incredible to see, very much like ostrich or cassowary, which tower over us!
The fact that they were flightless suggests that they didn't have natural enemies.
You have placed the birds well in the frame, almost on a diagonal.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hi Malgo,
The trees are framing well the sculptures.. The point of view is showing the details of the sculpture. The light is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Ciao Malgo,
J'aime mieux les rencontrer sous forme de statues qu'en vraie vie. La photo est belle et les textures sont bien rendues.Par contre, je me demande de quoi leurs pattes on l'air.
Amicalement

Hello Malgo, thank you for sharing this picture and informing us about the Moa.
They really look quite prehistoric. What a shame that we can only see them as sculptures.
Set in what might have been natural surroundings for them, the green makes a good background.
Regards Jean.

Hello Malgo,
They look quite impressive, these two wingless birds. You captured them very well together here, nicely surrounded by a wide variety of green tones. Well done.

Hello Malgo,
Beautiful per of this Moa birds statues, now an extinct specie, but the "ancestors" still can be found only in NZ: the kiwi's.
The surrounding area surely shows theie natural habitat from back in time.
Have a nice friday,
Ike

Oi, Malgo!
Uau, essas aves eram enormes!

Buona domenica
