ENGLISH: The Māori name for the glacier is Ka Roimata o Hinehukatere

The tears of Hinehukatere,it's a local legend: Hinehukatere loved climbing and persuaded her lover, Tawe, to climb with her. Tawe was a less experienced climber than Hinehukatere but loved to accompany her until... an avalanche swept Tawe from the peaks to his death. Hinehukatere from her many tears flowed down the mountain and froze to form the glacier.

Many companies offer a helicopter ride to see the glacier. But what's really impressive is walk it, a unique experience:)

Lo que ser燰 en castellano "las l墔rimas de Hinehukatere" debido a una leyenda local:

Hinehukatare adoraba escalar por la monta鎙s y convenci� a su novio Tawe para que la acompa鎙se. 宄te era menos experienciado que ella que le gustaba acompa鎙rla donde fuese hasta que una avalancha le tir� de la cima hacia su muerte.
Hinehukatare llor� tanto que sus l墔rimas cayeron per la monta鎙 y se congelaron formando este glaciar.

Muchas empresas ofrecen volarla en helic鏕tero y verlo desde arriba pero la verdadera experiencia es cainar por dentro de 幨!

Hello Cristina,
another great picture from your trip to New Zealand.It愀 really original to take a photo from inside a glacier and I bet great experience.I like the strong contrast between white glacier,blue sky and the rock formation.Great work!

Hola Cristina.
Muy bonita la leyenda, que nos sirve para valorizar mas la imagen que contemplamos, que por cierto resulta preciosa con la variada gama de colores, ese retazo de azul intenso, que no se muy bien si es agua, sirve para resaltar mejor la monta鎙 y sus texturas, entre la roca y las plantas que la dan un bonito toque de color.
Disfruta de la tarde y el buen tiempo.
