Photographer's Note

A very beautiful fungus of the forest floor, Entoloma hochstetteri grows in moist areas of New Zealand during the autumn. I decided to go for a macro shot because the weather was too bad for anything else - the rain meant that I could barely even see the lake from the path!

My main reason for sharing this one was simply the gorgeous almost crystalline colour of the blue cap, here in the UK we don't have any true blue fungi...

As has been mentioned in the critiques it is not edible. Always assume a fungus is poisonous unless you're absolutely certain it isn't!

In addition to the Macro lens I also used a 1.4x teleconverter to get in even closer - as a result the reproduction ratio was about 1.4:1
