Wild, a photo from Canterbury, South Island

Photographer's Note

In 2000 Christchurch was hit by a disaster, not an earthquake, but a massive cyclonic like storm that sunk boats, trashed trees in town and whole pine plantations and damaged plenty of houses. The day after because so much was forcably closed we drove up to Arthurs Pass. The winds continued as we drove but fortunately eased off the father inland that we went.
We passed the mountain in the photo - the light was strange with heavy storm clouds but enough light to make the mountain side almost glow. Snow was swirling along the ridge tops.

You're right ... the light is strange but it makes an even more spectacular mountain .. Heaven indicating that storm is coming and makes of the image a very beautiful colors

Hi Ian,
you have captured the mountain in an extraordinary light. The dark sky makes an incredible atmosphere. The silhouettes of the trees stand out well set against the bright mountain. The colors of the mountain are fantastic too.

Fabulous colors over the picture diff. levels, due to the storm mentioned, I guess.
Scale, clarity and depth superbly achieved.
By the way, My daughter was in Christchurch with other 3 friends at the time of the famous (notoriously) earthquake.
