Photographer's Note
I realize that zoom lens photography is intrusive and the subject is not even aware that a photo is being taken. There is no eye contact, no communication, no consent.Yet there I was in a pub in Hokitika, the midday sun shining strong through the glass front and a man sat close to the light but keeping his face in the shade. I immediately thought of Caravaggio and Rembrandt and the way they caught the light in their work. The silver bearded man would have been the type the said artists would have used in one of their works. So, full of inspiration I took this photo and another that you can see in workshop.
Sometimes one feels that a moment is too precious to let it disappear into oblivion, regardless of social niceties- such was the case here.

Zdravo, Klaudio,
This is very original portrait in interior. Good title and interesting note, clever composition, excellent combination of the lightss and the shadows. Just an art work! I like WS photo too.
I have reserved a few photos from Russia for you too, as you asked.
Best wishes from Ural,
Serghei

Hi Klaudio,
Both are good images in their own right. I prefer the WS for the full view. I prefer the main photo for the pensive mood of the subject. Well seen and captured.

Trevor

Hello Klaudio,
I absolutely agree with the last statement of your note, and think that "precious moment" is the best way to describe scenes like this. It's not only the visual impact but the instinct that makes us pay attention to a complete stranger and make a contact with them before we go on our way again. Your picture is simple and rich, atmospheric and captivating. I love the play of light and the colours that make the simple scene so interesting. I prefer this scene over the one in the workshop not so much for the contrasts but because here the state of being is more important than the action. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hello Klaudio. Here you show a beautiful and interesting people study. Composition, lighting and colors are fine. Interestingly text. The zoom really makes a pleasant distance. This subtle and timeless photo pleases me very well.
Best rgds, Wolfgang.

Hello Klaudio,
Both picture are nice to look at, indeed a telelens photography is a little bit paparazzi.
Sharpness and clarity are pleasant to look at
A nice composition, excellent presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.

Hello Klaudio,
Certainly there is mood, here, of quiet contemplation and, you are right, it is very Rembrandtesque.
The light is almost as important as the figure; and, the glass - the photograph would be poorer without it!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Klaudio,
Both pictures are great and were taken with superb sense of the moments! Like the natural pose of the man and the play of lights and shadows which built a fantastic pattern on the wall. Charming and moody pic! TFS!
Best wishes,

Jako lepo, još da mu je čaša puna!!!
Odlično svetlo, čak ne smeta ni taj naslon (ne znam šta je) u prvom planu.

You are right comparing this to Caravaggio and his chiaroscuro style. Very photogenic subject (even though he didn't have an idea you were taking this image!) and the lonely glass is the cherry on the cake.

Ciao Klaudio
non avevo visto questo scatto, il riferimento a Caravaggio è comprensibile.
Una foto non facile, le luci sono difficili da gestire, con la maglia bianca e le parti in ombra molto scure, ma sei riuscito a ottenere un ottimo risultato.
Saluti
