Yellyfish Lake, a photo from Koror, North

Photographer's Note

Yellyfish Lake.

North of the island of Koror at Rock Islands is an island with a lake which is since 10.000 years separated from the sea. Small underwater channel exchange fresh water with the sea. As they are separated and have no enemies the Yellyfish lost their poison tentacles and you could swim in the lake ... and we do it :-)

When the sun is behind the clouds hundreds, no thousands of Yellyfishs are coming up to the water surface. You swim like in bubbling bath tub (please have a look to the WS) - it is an impressive feeling to nudge in every motion on them. The sun breaks through the clouds - the process turn around - no yellyfish were seen at the water surface.

These Yellyfish are up to 12 cm great. Sometimes you could see a young Yellyfish under a greater Yellyfish. This isn't a child as our guide told us ... they don't want to swim :-)

Your photo is one of the most attractive jellyfish photo's I've seen. The detail is phenomenal and it's a really pretty jellyfish. It's a jellyfiish that I've never seen before. I also like the WS very much. I had friends who moved to Palau long ago because it was the most remote place they could find. I've always wanted to go there, is it still remote? HLJ, Pat

What an interesting optical you offer and show us here! I like the movement rules on the entire image, the soft shades, yellow and white basically in high contrast with the environment, darker!

These jellyfish give a good effect of color to the photo, with the darkest desaturated background, which works as a backdrop and gives very much contrast.
I like the photo of the WS with the original colors, also.

brrr it does not look so inviting on that one, especially on the WS !
However I like the close up that allows to see very well the details, it's well framed and the yellow tones glow very nicely in this darkness.

That's a nice and unusual shot. The colors and apparent textures of these swimming jellyfishes are very interesting and I like the way you managed the light.
