Photographer's Note

We have a big persimmon tree (Diospyros kaki) in my backyard, this tree is native from China, but brought to Brazil by Japanese immigrants. It was planted in the central part of my city when it was founded because when I was a little boy this tree was very big yet. Probably it is the oldest tree in my city. When my father purchased the area there was a fence near the trunk and half part of the tree was reaching the other lot and the two teen sons of the owner used to eat them. After some years these boys became priests and one of them became a cardinal and is living in Rome, ruling an important structure of the church. Then these are "the Cardinal's persimmon" as I like to say joking.
This tree is very large and faced many risks, many decades ago a giant wild tree fell and let half part of it, it faced the 1992 tornado and survived because it was autumn and it had lost most of its leaves and the wind only removed them fast, after that it survived to a big disease and even today some branches die, but it is resistant. Its fruits are ever very sweet and numerous.
