Photographer's Note

It is told Aedes aegypti mosquito (whose Latin name means hateful from Egypt)was brought from Africa to Brazil during the slavery period, with the potable water of the boats. It became a terrible problem bringing the yellow fever to Rio de Janeiro city in the beginning of 20th century, when it was almost extinct by a vacine and sanitary campaign created by Oswaldo Cruz who had to deal with the ignorant people who didn't believe in the science. This same mosquito went up again in the 1980's with the economic collapse and arrived in my town in the 1990's. This mosquito is the carrier of many diseases, including dengue. Few years ago my town had a dengue fever epidemic and after that the city hall created a better system of control. Anyway during the hotter months, in special at the end of summer, we have to face these mosquitoes, who are different of the native ones, they attack during the daylight and have strips in the legs and provoke an intense itch. This wasn't a good year for them in my region because the frosts killed the adults and the eggs had not so much chance to eclode because the terrible drought we are crossing.
I was working when I killed this one with my hands. Dengue fever and other similar diseases killed hundreds of people and infected around one million of Brazilians.
