Photographer's Note

Storms are fascinating. Even when we are floating aboard a little boat, storms are fascinating!
Of course that we should find any sheltered place to watch it going away safely!
Here, we was anchored in a harbor of "Arvoredo Island", where many professional fishermen use to find safe anchorage. Its better for us that the thunderstorms usually prefer the continent mountains, so we can watch it... and take photos!... while waiting a better weather to return.
This "roll" clouds are really fascinating...

Hi Jose,

Ooooh! You caught my full attention here... Unbelievable! I would have like to be at your side for this one Jose, this is something so impressive.

The light seems to bounce from everywhere, creating contrasts and highlights in the sky, while being perfectly spread over the sea. What a natural masterpiece you've shot, so singular and admirable. The boat is a bonus that complete your composition in the most remarkable way. Don't move nothing, don't tweak nothing, it's perfect like this.

Hello Zeca,

The cloud in the middle is huge as it make the mountains look tiny. I like the perspective of this image because it show us a natural event in progress. The clouds look a bit white to be stormy but we get the idea of the situation very well. Good placement of the boat in relation to the background. A clear image with soft colours. Thanks Jose.

Hi Jose, incredible cloud, I've never seen anything like it. Composition with the hills under that cloud and the boat on the left work well. The soft pink tones you're getting just above the hills are great and work well with the pastel blues. Nicely done.

Que fantastico parece que o ceu esta em pleno tisunami! A calmaria do mar conntrasta bem com auqela nuvem branca enorme que mais parece uma onda enorme. Deve ter anjo surfando ali!
PS: So hj me dei conta que sua foto de introducao foi tirada em Quebec (to certa ou to errada!)

Realmente, Florianopolis parece ser a capital das nuvens espetaculares. So voce para ter este tipo de foto aqui em TE. O barco e um bonus bem legal para dar aquele contraste e or ao elemento gasoso.

Great capture of moment while storm clouds are forming to different shape. You were lucky because on the sea and widely open area. Here I'm following them with car some times.

A good composition with wonderful blue tones.But what I like most here is this horizontal stripe of clouds.The boat is perfect placed and the image has a good depth with these mountans in the distance.

Em Angola tamb幦 se viam estas nuvens baixas como a que nos mostras aqui. E tamb幦 eram sinal de muita chuva e vento.
Tens uma composi誽o fant嫳tica com o barco no ter蔞 esquerdo e alinha de horizonte bastante baixa.

Concordo com voc�!! Em termos de oportunidades fotogr塻icas, nuvens e tempestades s緌 um grande tema. Aqui a composi誽o simples real蓷 com grande efetividade o acontecimento atmosf廨ico. O barco, no ter蔞 esquerdo, tem todo o resto do quadro, at� a borda direita, por atravessar, na sua pachorra, para se salvar da tempestade que se aproxima. Mas ela ainda est� distante, pressentida pelo nimbostratus, essa camada de nuvens baixas de precipita誽o no plano m嶮io, e pelo, a� sim perigoso, cumulonimbus que mostra seu grande desenvolvimento vertical ao fundo, enfeitado com uns altocumuli. Acolho o que disse o Andr� (Indiana asi嫢ico) quanto � beleza da luz ambiente, mas havemos de convir que, da camada de nimbostratus para cima, uma dupla exposi誽o ou um nd grad teriam sido de grande valia para que o c徼 n緌 perdesse detalhes de tons nas regi髊s mais claras. Eu seria at� mais ousado e adotaria um crop que eliminasse a por誽o superior do quadro, deixando um ter蔞 de mar e dois ter蔞s de c徼. De novo aquela prefer瘽cia minha por dramaticidade...

Hi jose,
I just critiqued a tropical scene from Malaysia and now I am in tropical Brazil and they both have brooding storm clouds. I have been in a couple of storms in the ocean before and I didn't like them at all. My wife calls me a Colorado "Mountain Man" with poor sea legs and she is right about that. You have created a fabulous photo which ironically appears to be calm on the surface but I am sure that a raging storm can occur with a moment's notice. I love the monochrome soft blues against the sharp outline and the bolder colors of the boat. Superb!
