Photographer's Note
the relationship between humans and domesticated animals in the big cities in developing countries is splitted: those who can afford will buy a dog or a cat with a pedigree and treat them like their kids... in the suburbs, it´s not unusual to find an abandoned dog - of course, without a royal pedigree - at your front door, and it´s up to you to adopt the animal, but usually it´s the animal who addopts you.
every day hundreds of unlucky dogs (cats seem to be smarter) are captured by people from a department of the major hall and will be kept in prison for one week, to give its owner the opportunity to go there and take it back home. after this period the dog is sent to sacrifice.
it´s a very traumatic experience for a kid to see the truck arriving in the street, full of dogs barking, see the men dressed in blue holding nets and capture the dog that by chance was strolling around...
the little girl went nuts when she saw the little dog to be sold in an animals store at the shopping mall...
pp: desaturated, increased contrast, resized, added frame. minimalistic pp phase :))
this one is my humble contribution to homerhomer´s theme about dogs in pictures. btw, hh is one of my 50+. hope you like it. comments welcome.

Isabel, such a sad note (truth hurts doesn't it).
I usually get too wound up when it comes to the topice of abandoned and euthinized dogs, so I won't here....
This is a very nice composition, and this truly is how many children react to puppies (that also creates many problems but I won't get into it), the hand streching out and trying it's darned to get through the locked glass is indeed very telling.
The dog is a too dark imo, posted a workshop with my suggestion. Have also included this image in my theme. Hope to see more.
Peter
PS, I am glad you noticed my theme, truly appreciate you taking note of it.

Nice photo, accompanied by a strong note. I wish the puppy was a little clearer within the frame though! Difficult to get both unpredictable subjects to what you want simultaneously

Ola Isabel, so true what you describe! But I feel the need to extend this message to adults as well. I am able to see things more in perspective than children do, but I also find these kind of things sometimes heartbreaking.
There used a to be a market in Antwerp, Belgium on Sunday morning, called bird's market, but all kinds of animals were sold, and often kept in bad conditions. I always feel pity with them because of how the way they are treated.
At the same time, I feel even more ashamed that I feel pity for these animals, knowing that in a lot of countries PEOPLE lead a life much worse than the way animals are treated in our western countries. I recall the comment you left on my 'day after' (hmmm, I cant' find it there, maybe you wrot it in a e-mail), which was take after the Tsunami, you wrote that we should not forget about waht was happening in Africa every day. And you're right, we tend to go on to the next disaster, and forget about Darfur, as we have all donated our money already a long time ago, right?
Hmmm, pretty heavy comment on the early Monday morning....
I like the picture, Isabel, and her tiny little finger is very nice, and SO common for children!
I too find the dog a bit too dark.

a wonderful and unique perspective. you took a subject that could easily be sentimental and cliche-- a child and a puppy-- and you have made it into a challenging image.

Hi Isabel. Interesting point of view: looking down at both the girl and the dog, but in the same time trying to get the viewer involved in the situation. There's a strong diagonal interaction between the girl and the dog (which indeed is a bit too dark, like the others already wrote). What I find especially attractive in this picture are the newspapers!

dear isabel, what a nice view of two sentimental things -- toddler and dog. it's very hard to take a good photo of these subjects because usually, no matter how hard you try, they end up looking like a poster hanging in a teenage girl's room... but this, not at all. i love your unique vision.
good note. if i look in the other room i can see my dog (who was a stray until she adopted me) sleeping in the sun. so sometimes there are happy endings.
agree with the others, the dog is too hard to see here.

Boa tarde Isabel (it's late evening at least here now ;-)). Almost missed the start of y'r dog asylum series. I love the dramatism and the interaction you captured here. The impact could've been a bit stronger if the puppy was better defined but in the scheme of things of this picture with its very well choese angle and well advised b/w, it doesn't really bother me. Great stuff. Beijo from Rotterdam!

Hi Isabel,
A heart-rendering idea, but unfortunately the dog is just too dark for me to feel the effect of what you are trying to tell me in your notes...
