SYRIGMA SIBILATRIX, a photo from Parana, South

Photographer's Note

This is a bird we can find in pastures of central Paran�, not so usual. Syrigma sibilatrix it is science name, but its popular name is Maria-Faceira (something like elegant Mary in Portuguese). It has a curious blue eye shadow and a plume in the back part of the head. In front of it there is a plague of pastures, a plant filled with thorns, producing many small fruits that looks like watermelons in miniature. Cows eat them and new plants are created.

Esse � um p嫳saro que podemos encontrar nas pastagens do centro do Paran�, Syrigma sibilatrix � seu nome cient璗ico, mas seu nome popular � Maria-Faceira. Ele tem uma curiosa sombra azul ao redor dos olhos e um penacho na nuca. Diante do animal vemos uma praga de pastagem, que tem espinhos e produz pequenos frutos que parecem melancias em miniatura. O gado come essas frutas e espalha a praga por toda a pastagem.

Hello Jorge,
It's a nice composition from what we can vaguely imagine is a scenic landscape. Sharpness is not absolutely perfect, but it's good enough and we see that the bird is very beautiful. The light is good and well handled.

Hello Jorge,

What a coincidence, that I should have 2 herons to critique on the same day! I looked up the bird that you have photographed to find that it is also called the 'whistling heron'. Does it whistle?
It's a beautiful big bird, the sort we would would normally see near water but maybe not in Brazil.
Though the focus is not absolutely sharp I can see the blue eye shadow and the pink on the beak.

Muy bonita foto en la cual podemos ver un especimen de la fauna y otro de la flora de la zona, el pajaro es muy bonito y es a primera vez que lo veo, bien el desenfoque del fondo que realza tanto la planta como el p奫aro.

it looks a bit like a heron to me, but may be it is a slightly different subspecies.
Very well captured in a lovely natural environment. Pleasantly blurred background emphasizes the bird.
