Photographer's Note
Here is a classic view of the Torres del Paine. This translates roughly as "Towers of Blue" from the local Quechua language and refers to the colour of the ice here.
We reached this lake after trekking up from the village at the base of the mountain. We tried to do it as quickly as possible as we only had very limited time and the bus was leaving at midday! The final part of the climb was very difficult and involved scrabbling over a huge rockfall - just what you need to finish your kneecaps off.
We were very lucky with the weather as it stayed dry for the day. A few minutes after this photo was taken, the clouds rolled in and hid the tops of the towers, so we were very happy to get this shot - it almost made all the pain worthwhile!
This mountain is infamous for its strong winds, and on the way back down we were hit by a gust that was so strong it actually knocked 2 grown men to the ground.

Hello Dan,
You say it's a classic but I haven't seen the towers from this vantage point. Of course, the peaks look spectacular in alpenglow (remembering Galen Rowell shots). Your photo is great as it gives us the unadulterated, daylight view. The water in the foreground has interesting color. Overall, it's a terrific composition. Regards,

Good "in close" shot of these towers, showing lots of detail. In a place that is notorious for bad weather I would say you got lucky that day and got to see something. Of course it would be a better shot if the light was more interesting, like at sunrise or sunset, but still a good shot, with a very dramatic rockface. Well done!

Hello Dan,
You framed an excellent part of nature so differently. This beauty hides nature's anger as you wrote. Incredible.
