Photographer's Note

Although not a Muslim, I am fascinated with historical sites and ancient architecture, so it was no surprise that the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque) in Istanbul offered such a great appeal. It was during the last week of Ramadan last year that I took this picture. It was not easy photographing the inside of this mosque with the large numbers of people, high ceilings, and a myriad of cables and wires (used for power and lighting) obstructing the view. I did find this man, however, who seemed to be sitting in quiet reflection, in one of the outer wings of the mosque.
