Living in a giant Jenga puzzle, a photo from New York, Northeast

A new building has almost been completed in Tribeca, and it looks like a giant Jenga puzzle! :-)

This residential skyscraper has 57 floors, and has been described as "houses stacked in the sky". Cantilevered balconies create the unique design, and apartments sell for between $3.5 and $15 million dollars. Needless to say, I won't be able to afford one. ;-)

The architects are a Swiss firm, Herzog and De Meuron, and there is going to be a unique feature beside the entrance: a mini version of the famed Chicago "Cloud Gate" sculpture by artist Anish Kapoor.

Tribeca doesn't have as many skyscrapers as other Manhattan neighborhoods, and this building really stands out next to all of the older, low-rise structures.

Hello Brenda,
What a very special building this is. It looks like a great number of small huts stacked on top of each other. I think the people living near the top should be careful when walking close to the outer wall, or the entire building could collapse. Can you get a grand piano up there, and where can you safely put it? It's a fantastic, weird building which makes me smile, and this photo really underscores its unique style. The light blue against the darker blue is stunning. I actually quite like the brown building in the foreground too. I guess it represents a more common style in this area.

Hi Brenda,
Now that is unique! A fascinating design and done to a very large scale. I like that you contrast it with the lower brown buildings behind and in front to give a sense of context. I cant say I actually like this particular building, but its a beauty to learn about, thanks for the post!

Hello Brenda,

You called it Jenga, my thought was Lego!
Maybe an in-city lighthouse!
But, I have to admit it is one outstanding building!
You have composed it very well, off-centre, and showing it sharply against the blue sky.

I have seen quite a few sculptures by Anish Kapoor, in London. He did the helter-skelter structure outside London's Olympic Stadium and I once posted his work, composing of a pyramid of shiny, metalic spheres.

Hi Brenda,i never seen this bulding from N.Y.,so your post is very interesting to me..ehehe..a very curious architechture,in effect reminds a puzzle or a Lego composition,great capture very sharp and bright and a useful close up of the top in the WS too,well done! Hello Brenda, This building really stands out but even if the architecture is very interesting, I do not like it at all. Maybe it would be nice to see the view from the last floor but to live there? No problem I do not have even 3,5 million $ and I do not regret it. But the composition is excellent and thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend

Hello Brenda,
A very remarkable building but then mostly its upper part.
The lower part doesn't look that much special. Although its blue and white colour makes it already stands out from the other buildings around.
There is a large height difference with the surrounding buildings. Yet it surprises me what you call low-rise structures :)

I'm not sure I like it, but it surely stands out in the urbanscape!

yes, i've seen photos of this online recently.
i'm still not sure if i love it or dislike it - and i'm an architecture lover! what makes me not like it so much is how skinny it is, if it were 2 or 3 times as wide it would look better. it looks like a tall skinny pencil among short stalky boxes. kinda weird. but....it grabs our attention and its certainly worthy of some photos. love the subject material, certainly interesting and gets people talking.

I take it the vast majority of people in manhattan don't like it?

Hello Brenda,

I have not seen the stacked-house building yet, and am happy to see it in your gallery. In Dubai, a nation that is now officially insane, they've built a sky scraper where all the floors turn, as if the entire building is twisting. In time each floor gets a 360� panoramic view. Fascination new example of this new residential skyscraper. Interesting to see the never-ending fantasy of the modern architects. This building reminds me to the kind of buildings I built long ago with my LEGO-stones.

Hello Brenda,

Looks like it was constructed from giant lego blocks. The tower is well placed on the vertical 1/3 axis. Excellent sharpness and framing. Good warm cold color contrasts too between the blue sky and cream beige yellow colors of the lower buildings at the bottom of the frame. Tfs!

Excellent composition, with this contrast of buildings, undoubtedly the tall tower in blue takes our attention, for its original construction that seem superimposed elements, already in its final part.
A magnificent color that gives a lot of chromatic richness to the image.

I noticed this giant jenga puzzle when in NYC, so I am pleased to learn about it in your post.
Very interesting construction indeed. It's a pity these places are so expensive and always reserved to the very rich :-(
