Photographer's Note
‘Ban Komaen - Workers on the tea hills’
Three more pictures of the hills with the tea fields around Ban Komaen in the north of Laos.
Both workers on my main photo were setting up a site to plant new tea bushes.
Qualitatively these are not my best photos. The light wasn't that great either.
Still, I would like to show you these landscapes that were so very different from the rest of the country.
The most beautiful tea fields I ever saw were in Munnar, Kerala, South India. A long time ago I also saw beautiful ones near Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka and near the Puncak Pass in Java, Indonesia.
Yet I enjoyed being in this fresher part of Laos for a few days.
The nights were even fairly chilly but not as cold as in Phonsavan where the Plains of Jars are located.

Bonsoir Paul,

Hello Paul Wonderful landscape of the tea terraces. Nice view of the workers. I have seen the terraces in India.
Is this small hut the same as in your previous post? Magnificent composition. Indeed, I wouldn't guess it was Laos. Not so far from Yunnan and the rice terraces there.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Paul
Another good tea series. You'd have to be fit to cope both with the work and getting up those hills.
cheers

Salut Paul,

Hello Paul,
The scenery is beautiful in all these photos and especially in the main upload. And I don't mind at all seeing two persons in the foreground. In the WS I like the rusty tin roof surrounded by green bushes.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Paul,
Don't be dismissive, these are fine photographs and clearly reveal the conditions in this part of Laos.
I like this, as the main shot, for it shows us the conditions under which the people have to work.
I immediately felt sorry for this couple; the ground looked as difficult to clear as that in my garden, when we bought the house decades ago! It was back-breaking work but we weren't at the top of a steep hill and could pop in for a cup of tea (thanks to the work of people like these) any time we felt like it!
The steep hills do look wild and difficult to work, but stunning as landscapes.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Goedenavond Paul,
Bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John

Rustige dagelijks leven/arbeid foto.

Hello Paul
I hope you were especially careful of UXO from the Vietnam war, when Americans dropped more bombs on Laos than during the whole of WWII in Europe! I have been to Phonsavarn whose landscape is riddled with bomb craters but this area seems serene enough. Tfs!

Hallo Paul,

Groet Rob

Hello Paul,
Wow! this is stunning view of tea hills ...it's a pretty good photo and the visibility of rolling hills , after another rolling hills as far as the eye can see , pretty amazing too even a bit misty in the horizon. So clear, I can see about 20 huts scattered around the hills. That's say something, isn't it :-)
I do believe that this Tea Plantation is quite new, seeing all the hills with bare patches of newly growth tea plants. I see that the tea plants are quite tall, normally there are pruned to waist height.
For me , the only tea fields I saw was in Cameron Highland, M'sia. And it was beautiful. To be honest, I prefer to see rice terraces. Have you got one? :-)
Well, if you stayed so long in Laos. It's must be a nice country to visit. I'll keep that in mind.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful place.

Hallo Paul, i see many slopes were deforested in the background. These people work hard on steep slopes. They are cleaning the soil to plant new tea bushes in that plot. A magnificent landscape but the pictures show the disappearance of the tropical forest. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

A daily life picture and the landscape scenery from this region, well combined and presented.
The diagonal-lines of terraces and slopes are attractive sight added depth to the composition, and multi-green colors prevailed.
Good afternoon,

Hello Paul.
Great composition with these two workers in the tea fields, surrounded by a spectacular landscape of mountains behind them, alternating their slopes with very green areas, with other more bare ones.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.
Well done. I love.
Enjoy the weekend.
Very best regards.
Luis.
