MOERKERKE, pleasant bicycle trip of 25 km middle of the nice nature 12 km of the North Sea.
We have a soft winter pleasant for my daily life bicycle trip

Trees along the creek are oblique through the always northwest wind, typical for this area

History of the area long time ago
Moerkerke was founded in the early 12th century and had a chapel that depended on the parish of Oostkerke. There would also have been a keep that was the seat of the local lord, later Moerkerke Castle. Between 1134 and 1160 the area around Moerkerke was largely flooded. At the end of the 12th century, the southern part of Moerkerke was diked in by Branddijk and Damweg, and the Waterpolder was created. Around 1228 the area north of the said dike was withdrawn from the sea and the Maldegemse Polder was created. In 1234 Moerkerke was already mentioned as an independent parish.
In addition to the seat of the lords, there was also the Hof van Altena, a Bruges fief. There were also two monasteries: the Abbey of Zoetendale (on the territory of Middelburg) and the Sarepta Monastery. These monasteries were abandoned during the religious wars (end of the 16th century).
In addition to agriculture, there were windmills and bricks were manufactured.

Hallo John,
De wind waait dus meestal uit dezelfde richting in deze streek.
Des te meer opmerkelijk dat we vanuit dit standpunt de meeste bomen naar links zien overhellen maar een aantal, het bosje aan de rechterzijde, helt over in de tegengestelde richting.
Prachtige natuurfoto met de loop van het beekje recht voor ons en met de weerspiegelde boomstammen in het water.

The bright weather helped you to capture what I think is one of your favourite features: trees along a canal perfectly reflected in water as calm as a mirror. This is a fine composition and it makes the photo a bit amusing to see the tree leaning so heavily. It's like they want to look into the water to admire themselves.

Very puzzling picture and interesting note to explain the strange phenomenon.
On the farthest right-hand side, the small trees seem to lean on the opposite side, so I presume it is a false optical illusion.

Appart of the trees everything else is level, could it be the wind causing the effect? The point of view is showing the details of the reflections and of the trees. The colors and the sharpness are very good. Have a nice dya.

Hmm, it must be very windy there. But then again, the younger trees on the right are tilting to the right. Puzzling, which direction does the wind blow there generally?

Hello John,

This is an excellent piece of observation to turn the creek and surrounding trees into such a fine piece of artistry.
The leaning trees are very texturally detailed, with a fine illumination from the low sun, around their bases.
The reflections of the trunks, in the creek, seems to give the photograph a whole new sense of dimension, like a depth into the water!
As always, you have created a fine linear perspective.

Magnificent composition with this beautiful country landscape, curious inclination of the trees next to the canal, where they project a beautiful reflection, the curious thing is that the young trees on the right lean to the opposite side.
Good perspective of the image, very pleasing to the eye.
