Photographer's Note
I was walking around alone in La Paz (Bolivia), going up the hill, and I found this place, wich hit me hard by its strange configuration combined with the darkness of this heavy cloudy day. It was at noon.
No modifications except for dust removal (scanned picture).

Very dark indeed. Was it about to rain? Cables are everywhere. Is this near the city-center?

This is really disjointed. It makes my eyes hurt. And that's why I like it. It really looks like two images. The way that last building comes to such a narrow point makes it look like it was just cut off. Even the scenes are different. The right side one looks like a busy city and the left side one looks like a quiet town. That large building linking the two halves is also a nice contrast in color and style. And even that looks like it's split into two pictures with the excellent way you've set yourself for this photo. The moody sky and street scenes are also excellent. Really cool image that you spotted and captured so well here.

You certainly managed to capture the mood of this cloudy day Frederic! I can almost feel the walking people on this painting. Nice daily scene...and welcome to TE :))

Welcome to TE Frederic.
I agree with you, this is very strange. At first I thought you had stitched two pictures because it looked so disjunct. You captured the mood of this kind of weather really well, nobody seems to be enjoying themselves. The contrast between the small hillside street and the crowded city street is interesting, especially since it is so abrupt. Great shot Frederic, I hope to see more like it.

There's a market just to your left & up the hill a few blocks. I love the streets of LaPaz, a maze of terrraces within a volcanoe. Great shot of a typical day.

You have to work hard just to get about in a city like this...my eye is drawn to the man centre-right in the white hat, starting up yet another hill. I need something to focus on with all this confusion! Excellent shot.

Bienvenue sur TE Frederic:-)
I like how this gives us a feel for the everyday street life in La Paz.Especially effective is the split in the centre with one street leading up and the other off on a curve.Well done.

Nice picture Frederic. I remember this "carrefour" very well. I love your composition, people going around, the wires, the sky. La Paz is a very special city I like a lot, even though I got robbed there. All my cameras ( EOS 1, EOS3, lenses.....)..
Très intéressante photo.

Love the way you have depicted daily life in this town. I love the hussle and bussle of people going around on a busy day. Great composition including both the streets. Well done.
As I like this photo I chose to try a workshop on it to enchance the colours lost on a cloudy day.

This looks like Jbel, Lebanon (i.e., on the other side of the world)
It made me feel the terrific fragrance of a rainy day I enjoyed wandering around the town, while being there on a short trip.
I've played a bit with the picture in PSP to see if I can bring more out of it... Almost nothing came out!
Also, the picture made me remember the "two roads" from the Bible: one easy and one hard to go.
People have made their decision: Which way to go?
You did a great job Frederic. Bravo!

Sure, it's a bit dark... but I think it goes along with the mood of this. The composition is excellent and makes this scene feel even more real. It has always amazed me that major cities in South and Central America can have the smalltown feel that you've captured so well here. It reminds me of Old Quito, San Jose CR, Cuenca, etc.... thanks!

I think this photo captures La Paz very well. It is a city of two worlds. To me your image on the left represents El Alto (ironic it is also the way to get there by going up) - the struggling poverty-stricken satellite of La Paz, and the right side of the image is where the affluent lives with its high rise apartment buildings. The city feels fictional and your image is surreal in that sense. Great job!
