Photographer's Note
Lake Ontario is the smallest of the Great Lakes -193 miles long and 53 miles wide, with 726 miles of shoreline.
Just off the western shore of Lake Ontario, between the cities of Hamilton and St. Catharines, there rests a nautical enigma. The little-understood landmark is a large wooden sailing ship, which lists strongly to one side as it half-rests, half-floats only a few meters off the shore in a small artificial cove. From up close, one can see that the vessel was once a floating restaurant called La Grande Hermine (The Big Weasel), after the ship Jacques Cartier used to sail up the St. Lawrence in 1535.
A major fire in 2002 all but destroyed the ship, leaving only its rusting metal shell listing in the Jordan harbour. (www.infiltration.org)

Wonderful picture Alana,
This picture looks like drawn using mercury :) I love these tones and wide angle. Sky over the ship looks very dramatic.
Thank you for sharing

Hi Alana,
I like the composition of your shot a lot. The texture in the sky and good detail in the foregound only enhance the main object. B&W work perfectly.
Congratulations!

Your POV really makes this photo. Good choice to go B&W and nice contrast balance. The water and the photo are nice and crisp. Very good job,

Very nicely shot and presented Alana - a classic image of a wrecked ship in period style - an interesting note too - the foregrond stones add an interesting dimension for the eye - perhaps just a little more space under the one on the right - fantastic sky for the image.
best wishes Kev

Hello Alana,
An enormous depth in this image, thanks to the clouds in the sky and your low angle point.
I think the colour version would also be strong with that polarised sky, but seeing it here in BW is a also a very pleasant picture to look at.

There's not much to say about the picture, Alana. It's perfect! Great point of view, perspective, composition and excellent choice of b&w. The sky and the surface of the lake are incredible. Of course the "Oscar" for the leading role goes to this beautiful ship. Congratulations!

Great image Alana - very eye catching! I really like the sepia treatment, which suits the subject very well. I see from your note that you are into infiltration - very interesting. Are there some good sites around Toronto that you have infiltrated? I sometimes get to Toronto on business, so I'd like to do some industrial type photography there. The rest of your portfolio is pretty amazing too, so I'll have to look in more often!

Hi Alana
Just wonderful.
A strong dynamism comes from this composition. The listing ship,in the same direction of the wind adds an impression of strong wind.
I found your note doubly interresting as this same boat was anchored here in Valleyfield and use as a restaurant but was not a hit,so it went away, not I know where. The world is really small.

Hey Alana.
Awesome pic. I see this boat everytime I drive down the QEW but I didn't really think much of it. Anyways, well done. TFS.
