Photographer's Note

I tried to do something different here...

Since I am not so adept with portrait shots, I tried one on a subject, something static, but something supremely beautiful…the unorthodox bright red face of the idol of Ma Durga.

Also experimented with framing using DOF...the two OOF objects are small bells which were part of the décor in the pandal. The bells are made of metal & the reflections (of daylight) on them maybe a bit jarring to the eyes, though I did try a bit of softening (of these bells only) in PP. The red colour of the idol is exactly just as it was.

I have posted a WS of a part of the pandal so that one gets an idea of how the small metal bells look in a larger context.

I’m not sure whether you would like the experiment & the effect. If you don’t, please do let me know…would definitely help my learning.

In yet another WS I have dabbled with PP - partial desaturation with Picassa..

For Kolkatans this is the idol of the Puja at Selimpur Palli.
