Wilderness Falls, a photo from West Coast, South Island

Photographer's Note

This is the first place I photographed on my New Zealand trip. The background sea stacks were incredible but the beach itself was looking pretty ordinary to photograph. so I walked along a bit and soon came upon these sandstone rocks, which in places were really orangey/red where a small stream continually ran over them. The small waterfalls were an added bonus to the scene.

Hi Adam,

Yet another terrific photo to add to your enviable collection. Superb composition and I love the angles created by the rocks, leading you into the photo. The little streams of water really were a bonus find, adding some wonderful, soft movement to the image as your eyes are led into it. Beautiful soft lighting in these overcast conditions and lovely contrast between the orange and blues. Tremendous, well done, enjoy your Sunday!

I love that one, challenges Arai Te Uru as my favourite of your NZ tour so far. I really like all the different triangles here, the two rocks in warm tones, the beach and the water cool. Also the earthy colors of the rocks are wonderful. And everything wrapped in the soft dawn light. And the small stream on the nacked rock face is intriguing, did you also make some close-up's of it?

This is one of those rare places where you can see a waterfall and the ocean shore at the same time. The warm coloured rock adds a nice contrast with the grey/blue of the ocean and sky. Another excellent shot!

A surprising foreground with those two little waterfalls. It certainly is a great bonus and gives the right value for the long exposure of this shot. I'm a little bit lost in the reference of sizes but I guess that thise rocks and the waterfalls in the foreground are realtively small otherwise I wouldn't be seeing the gravel so well.

Hej Adam.
Few countries are so photogenic as NZ and with your sense, and photoeyes it's a pleasure to watch them, to get inspired, to longing back.
In this one like others, I think you'v captured that specific desolated atmosphere that mark the southern westcoast old coalmine tiny towns.

Hello, excellent pov and strong sharp colors. the dark sky provides us with a moodiness yet the colors in the fg offfer some relief. Good milky whiteness to the waterfall in the fg from your long exposure time.
