I have wanted to find a photo to try this on, I've seen it work so nicely for other people. I really liked the line of coloured moorings, but the colours otherwise detract somewhat, I find. I selected the moors, inverted the selection and desaturated. Then back to the entire selection, placed a soft edge and sharpened.

Such a lovely shot, I decided to do some playing with it.
- rotate .3' cw
- decrease contrast and brightness
- increase saturation
- made a more subtle framing for the shot

I was trying to draw the eye to the moon.

I found the building distracting from the berries, so thought I would have some fun with this and try a different look. Highlighted the berried, then inverted the selection. Decrease saturation and contrast. Invert again and increase saturation of the berries.

I was first struck by the impression that the temple is falling to the right so I tried to upright it. This was about 7' correction so I had to do way to much 'clone-stamp', resulting quite a lot of fake sky and grass, but anyhow, it is all part of the demonstration...

Increased contrast and saturation, added red and yellow tones.

In aligning the photo to horizontal, it is important to use a vertical line, as all your horizontal lines are at off-angles due to your perspective on the temple. I chose the vertical walls near the top of the building and the vertical of the door to tie the alignement to.

I think by finding more vegetaion and texture to the foreground, it helps to emphasize the majesty of the peak. I think the contrast was too heavy and also the saturation, so I took those both down some, and also adjuste the colour tones. Still couldn't make the trees turn green ;-). But I thik the texture of the peaks has more detail with a lighter approach to the colouring.

I thought a tighter crop would make the subjects more dominant.

I also increased saturation and contrast slightly.

I straighted the vertical lines of the buildings and then had to crop.

I cloned out the car using ArcSoft.

I kept the sky quite light as obviously it was for it to be white in the photo, and tried to keep the blues consistant with the reflection in the water.

I always find it a shame when skies are blown out white in such a lovely photo. Seeing just a hint of blue though I was optomistic!

-use magic wand tool to highlight the sky
-play with tone, brightness, hue, saturation and contrast to bring back the sky.
-I did not fuss over the interface between the vegetation and the sky which needs some work, but this is hard to do on a reduced quality photo as required on TE, but just to give you an idea of what is possible.

I find the upper dark of the sky both appealing and distracting. You've offset that 'visual weight' with your frame selection. I've just cropped the photo differently, for a different look and hopefully to allow the cormorant more dominance in the photo.
